Let’s enjoy some Retro-AI Art! Now, that AIs have evolved (but still need to evolve much more), and can in a few minutes make fabulous videos, let’s remember the humble beginning.
Once upon a time, which mean few years back, there were only 2-3 imagine generators. Creators happily played around, took those images, and remade them in photoshop. That process took long, as the images were not so perfect. There was even a joke I heard “if you are an AI-Artists, Photoshop might just be your BF”’
After remaking the images, artists used 3-4 other instruments to ‘make them move’ – yes, there was a time when it was no video generator. And some wanted to test how this would work if you want to make short movies.
And this is us, having the desire to do a trans-media story. This was a trial we made, in early 2022, in the era of the humble beginning of Midjourney, first versions. At that time, we did not publish it – we were not satisfied with the results – and we said “Let’s wait for better tools”. And, while we do wait for a better tool, it is still an interesting experiment to see retro-art.
Some comments and lessons:
-> It was hard to keep generating images that could be transformed into a story. The tools did not allow for movements, you could only make micro-movements.
-> It was difficult to keep the same style scene by scene and in a catching way. You could either be ‘boring in the same style’ or become ‘interesting, but use different styles’
-> As it was in the beginning, we were asking, what if others generate similar images? So, we worked on the images a lot to have something more unique. Which was demanding.
-> Anyhow, we thought that generators would evolve. And they evolved. Somehow, we feel that they become ‘stereotypical’ And we started tot like more these first imperfect images.
So, this was our test, from early 2022. It was the era, when even on Linkedin everybody was posting images of artists, and lots of people were AI-artists – meanwhile, they turned to AI-experts or AI Prompt Masters.
