Real Metaverse Project Builds XR onto the Real World
-Revolutionary AR Tracking Technology Unlocks XR-ization for All –

Good news from our colleagues from Tokio : Psychic VR Lab Co., Ltd. has announced the ”Real Metaverse Project’. Utilizing the STYLY platform, the Real Metaverse Project will allow people all over the world to create and view XR content mapped to a real world space.
To celebrate the launch, METADIMENSIONS, the world’s first project making XR space tradable as NFTs, will arrive on 15th October, 2022.
METADIMENSIONS will officially open at the world famous “Shibuya Scramble”, and will act as an XR extension to the “Shibuya Scramble Crossing”, historically known as the birthplace of Japanese culture.

Until now, AR experiences have typically been generated by scanning AR markers (e.g. QR Codes) for positioning, but STYLY will now support a new tracking technology which adopts urban landscapes to position without QR codes or other markers.
This means that, for example, when looking for AR content at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing, an AR work that fits the Shibuya Scramble Crossing will automatically appear.
Since tracking technology detecting landscapes presents greater accuracy in real-world placement than using markers, it will be possible to design AR that fits the city better, such as placing items on top of buildings or overlaying content on billboards.

The METADIMENSIONS project is a collaboration with numerous artists, including the NFT brand BOSO TOKYO.
An event showcasing the work built upon this new STYLY tracking technology, will be held from 15th October to 13th November*.
Attendees will be able to view the works via their smartphones and purchase unique NFTs.

“Recently, due to the coronavirus crisis, we have changed from a society that emphasizes the real world to an online society that emphasizes non-contact. While the buzzword ‘metaverse’ became popular as an alternative to the real world, I think many people were made aware of the high value of experiencing it in the real world. In the next era of COVID-19, we will not replace the real world, but rather open the metaverse to all and propose a new lifestyle that combines real and virtual to enhance the experience value of the world itself,”said Ryohei Watanabe, CMO, Psychic VR Lab. “With this first event in Shibuya, We will create an unprecedented flow of people in the city, and contribute to the development of the city in the future.”

The Shibuya Scramble Layer is a digital layer overlaid atop of the world famous Shibuya Scramble Crossing.
Using this digital recreation, visitors to the historical landmark will be able to use their smartphones to visualize a digital layer that permanently exists within the real world.
It is possible to host multiple ‘Layers’ at a single location, allowing artists to collaborate and create unique digital experiences that exist in a real space. When users visit the physical Shibuya Scramble Crossing, they can switch between Layers and enjoy the location in a manner of different ways.

Additional Layers are currently in development, and are scheduled to arrive soon.
NEO TOKYO PUNKS, an NFT collection built on the concept of a cyberpunk Tokyo, and generative art GENERATIVE MASKS, will be released at the Shibuya Scramble Crossing in the near future.

Are you interested in creating your own Layers? A new function has been added to STYLY that allows for anyone to transform urban spaces. Utilizing the ARCore Geospatial API from Google, the Lightship ARFK provided by Niantic and Immersal (coming soon), both indoor and outdoor spaces can be overlaid with XR works. Six cities are currently enabled (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Kyoto), with more to come soon.

Using the STYLY app, anyone can add color and a splash of digital life to their favorite real world locations – available for all to see! With the October update, Psychic VR lab released an urban space XR function that can deliver AR / MR content to urban spaces in six major cities in Japan (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka, Kyoto).

In the future, artists and creators around the world can create and distribute city-scale AR/MR content all over the world.
