Tribeca Festival 2023: Submissions Open

The Tribeca Festival announces that Submissions are Open for the 22nd edition of the festival that will take place from June 7-18, 2023 in New York City.
For over 20 years, Tribeca has worked to bring the community together through innovative storytelling across film, TV, immersive, games, talks, audio storytelling, and more!

Submissions for the 2023 Festival open on September 19, 2022 and close on October 26, 2022 (early), December 7, 2022 (official), and January 18, 2023 (extended).
Shorts and audio storytelling submissions open on October 26, 2022 and close on November 30, 2022 (early), January 11, 2023 (official), and February 22, 2023 (extended).

SUBMISSION CATEGORIES

FEATURE FILMS
A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences, and introduces new technology and ideas through film premieres, post-screening performances, panels, and live experiences. Feature films invited to participate in the 22nd Tribeca Festival will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, in their sole discretion.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Feature-length (40 minutes or longer) narrative and documentary films that have not screened publicly in the New York region prior to the 2023 Tribeca Festival. Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before January 1, 2022.

SHORT FILMS
A platform for independent filmmaking, creative expression and immersive entertainment, Tribeca supports emerging and established voices, discovers award-winning filmmakers, curates innovative and interactive experiences, and introduces new technology and ideas through film premieres, post-screening performances, panels, and live experiences. Short films invited to participate in the 2023 Tribeca Festival will be shown in the section determined most appropriate by Festival programmers, in their sole discretion.
If you are submitting a student film, please submit via the Tribeca Extranet form to get the discounted submissions fee ($30 USD). You will need a copy of your student ID to qualify.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Short-length (under 40 minutes) narrative, documentary, animated, experimental films, and music videos that have not screened publicly in the New York region prior to the 2023 Tribeca Festival. Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before January 1, 2022.

TRIBECA IMMERSIVE
Tribeca exhibits immersive (XR) projects throughout the festival to showcase new forms and uses of emerging media, highlighting innovation in storytelling across a variety of platforms. These may range from virtual, mixed and augmented reality projects, 360 films, 3D films, interactive digital or multi platform projects, immersive multimedia installations, immersive audio, augmented live performances, virtual worlds. Submissions will be considered for the Tribeca Immersive Exhibition. World Premiere && International Premiere selections will also be considered for inclusion in the Main Competition and New Voices Competition. Some selections from the program may also be included in our online initiative for a global audience, pending approval by the creative team.
Project creators will also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, a first-of-its-kind, daylong, private industry market that brings together leading online and immersive storytellers to pitch new projects to a wide range of industry members, including distributors, agencies, brands, and more.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Works may include but are not limited to virtual, mixed and augmented reality projects, 360 films, 3D films, interactive digital or multi platform projects, immersive multimedia installations, immersive audio, augmented live performances, virtual worlds, but in any event, projects must have some sort of interactive digital element. Linear or 2D films and traditional live performances will not be accepted.

TRIBECA NOW
Tribeca NOW is a platform that discovers, highlights, and celebrates independent episodic work, including short and long form pilots/series, of both narrative and documentary genres. In addition to being considered for Official Selection of the 2023 Tribeca Festival, filmmakers submitting to Tribeca NOW will also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, a first-of-its-kind, daylong, private industry market held during TF that brings together leading episodic, immersive, and other emerging storytellers to pitch new projects to and network with a wide range of industry, including distributors, networks, brands, and more. Interested participants must have prepared pitch materials (i.e. scripts, look books, etc.) in advance of the event for Market staff to review. All filmmakers chosen as Official Selections of the Tribeca NOW section will receive an automatic invitation to the Tribeca Creators Market.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Eligible projects include episodic projects created for broadcast television and/or streaming, and web series. Submitted projects must show the potential for serial growth; standalone short films will not be considered.
Submitted films cannot have had ANY public screening, broadcast, distribution, or exhibition before January 1, 2022.

TRIBECA PODCASTS
Recognizing the importance of audio storytelling, the Festival will curate an Official Selection of podcasts and audio stories, with an emphasis on discovering, highlighting, and celebrating independent work. Selected projects for the 2023 Tribeca Festival will be showcased on the Festival’s website and/or in-person listening stations for the duration of the Festival. Selected projects will be reviewed by a jury of leaders and professionals in the entertainment and audio industry and be eligible for an official festival award.
Project creators will also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, a first-of-its-kind, daylong, private industry market that brings together leading online and immersive storytellers to pitch new projects to a wide range of industry members, including distributors, agencies, brands, and more.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Eligible projects include English-language, fiction and narrative nonfiction* podcasts and audio stories. Submitted projects must be 10-90 minutes in length, they can be episodic (including serialized) or stand-alone pieces (as further described below), and must not have been made publicly available.
*Story-driven nonfiction projects, as opposed to interview or talk shows. These projects will use editing to incorporate interviews and/or other sounds and music. Examples: This American Life, Radiolab, Serial.

Episodic Projects:
These projects were designed to be released as one episode in a larger series or podcast
Only one (1) episode per series may be submitted

Serialized Projects:
These are episodic projects where the story arc spans multiple episodes (Examples: Serial, Homecoming)
Only one (1) episode per series may be submitted
The first episode of the story must be submitted
This will either be the first episode of the series or the first episode of a season

Stand-Alone Projects:
Audio stories that are not part of a series, not an episode of a podcast

TRIBECA GAMES
Tribeca will feature video game projects throughout 2023 Tribeca Festival to highlight this important medium as a form of storytelling, art, and innovation. Story is defined in the broadest sense including narrative, world building, and/or artistic excellence. Cross-medium projects and unique use of technology that challenge our current understanding of games is embraced. Submissions will be considered for the Tribeca Games section and, if selected, will be considered Official Selections, and will be featured during the 22nd edition of the Tribeca Festival.
Project creators will also be considered for the Tribeca Creators Market, a first-of-its-kind, daylong, private industry market that brings together leading online and immersive storytellers to pitch new projects to a wide range of industry members, including distributors, agencies, brands, and more.
ELIGIBLE PROJECTS
Eligible projects include but are not limited to all U.S. and internationally produced games that have not launched prior to the 2023 festival and are created for PC, web, console, virtual reality, augmented reality, and mobile games. Tabletop games are not accepted at this time.

Tribeca Festival 2022, which took place June 8-19, featured 600+ events across New York City and was attended by more than 150,000 participants.

Highlights from the Festival included the world premiere of the Netflix documentary Halftime starring Jennifer Lopez; the world premiere of FX’s acclaimed scripted series The Bear starring Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Ayo Edebiri; the world premiere of BJ Novak’s feature directorial debut, Vengeance, starring Novak, Boyd Holbrook, Issa Rae, Ashton Kutcher, and Dove Cameron;

The Tribeca Festival is curated by Festival Director and VP of Programming Cara Cusumano, Artistic Director Frédéric Boyer; VP of Filmmaker Relations & Shorts Programming Sharon Badal and Head Shorts Programmer Ben Thompson; Senior Programmer Liza Domnitz; Programmers José F. In 2019, James Murdoch’s Lupa Systems, a private investment company with locations in New York and Mumbai, bought a majority stake in Tribeca Enterprises, bringing together Rosenthal, De Niro, and Murdoch to grow the enterprise.
